About Bob

Hello. My name is Bob and I’m a Pilot.

Just before my T-6 flight.

Just before my T-6 flight.

They often say that flying is an addiction, a disease. Well, I’ve got it and I’m happy to say that there’s no cure. One of my greatest joys in life is being behind the controls of my light (small) aircraft looking down at the beautiful landscape stretched out before me. When I’m not flying, I’m planning my next flight. If I’m not planning my next flight, I’m talking about flying with anyone who’ll listen… like you perhaps?

When I was about ten, I decided that I was going to get my private pilots license. Knowing that I could get my ticket as early as seventeen kept me day dreaming. But the cost of learning (then, a seemingly laughable $1,500) was so out of reach. Life went on, college, businesses, family and the lack of time to devote to training became a strong companion to lack of funds. But the dream and goal continued to live. Then in my early forties, my wife gave me the most wonderful birthday gift – an introduction flight at a local flight school. It was her sweet way of saying “It’s time. We have the means and will make it a time-priority… Go get your pilot license.”

I earned my my Single Engine Land, Private Pilot License in September 2007 and fly throughout the Northeast United States. Shortly after getting my ticket I joined a local Dutchess County flying club. I made good use of their two IFR certified Cessna Skyhawks (C-172) which were available most anytime I wanted.

Over the course of the next two years I put over 200 hours on those planes and earned my Instrument Rating.

Fall 2009 my good fortune was extended as I was able to purchase my own aircraft. A stunning example of a Mooney 205 SE (M20J).

Now I fly about 4-8 hours a week for business, charity flights (Angel and pet rescue), and just plain recreation. With every flight I try to go somewhere new or do it a differently so as not to “fly the same hour.” I have an insatiable appetite to learn how to become a better aviator, striving for perfection with every flight. When not flying, “Katie” calls Sky Acres Airport in Millbrook NY (44N) her home.

One of my goals is to keep a journal of my flights so I could one day look back on it and relive my experiences. Then I thought, why not keep it online and to share it with others, perhaps even start a dialog with other pilots and aviation enthusiasts!

I hope this blog becomes more than just a journal. I hope it becomes a dialogue with others who want to share their joy of aviation.
